Am I the only one who is anxious about the summer plan? It feels like I just finished planning and registering for summer camps and other activities and now fall programs are accepting registrations. It’s a perpetual sequence of beginnings overlapping with endings while the kids are school aged. Some days I feel like I can’t keep up!

Summer Vacation 2024

It’s totally OK to have weeks where you don’t have a plan in place. Many high-quality camps and activities are not yet full. 

Plus, consider working together with other parents and family members to cover care gaps for your kiddos. One year my kids’ grandparents took them on a last-minute cruise for a week because the cruise line was offering an unbelievable special and they wanted to spend quality time with them.  

And, sometimes kids need to learn how to creatively to fill time. I saw this first-hand when we took our kids camping to see the solar eclipse earlier this spring. With the absence of TV and video games, they immediately began inventing fun things to do. And, they were more receptive to learning new things - like how to swing a maul to split wood for our camp fire. Downtime is excellent fuel for the imagination.

Yes, it’s really time to start thinking about fall sports, after school activities, and other ways for your kids to spend their time this fall. Registration is already open for:

Extended Day Program Watertown Public Schools
