Youth Basketball in Watertown, MA

Watertown has fantastic youth basketball programs for kiddos who are kindergarten age through high school. The programs are provided by a combination of groups including the city recreation department, a non-profit organization, and an all-volunteer group, plus the Watertown Public Schools. And, there are so many opportunities between seasons for kids to develop their skills including a clinic that begins on October 10, 2024.
 
 Here are the basics on youth basketball programs in Watertown, MA: 

Boys & Girls Grades K – 1: Little Shooters is an excellent program provided by Watertown Recreation Department. Registration is typically in the fall. Coaches make the experience fun and keep all the kiddos engaged. We’ll post a link on Turf as soon as it becomes available. 

Boys & Girls Grades 2 – 3: The Watertown Boys and Girls Club (WBGC) offers Biddy Basketball. WBGC Biddy Basketball is an 8-week instructional program in which participants will learn the fundamental techniques, skills, and rules of basketball in a fun, team environment.

The focus of this program is on technical development and building confidence with the ball. All registered players will be assigned to a team, with all practices and games taking place in the WBGC gymnasium.

WINTER 2025 SEASON Schedule:

Registration Opens: September 30, 2024 (look for a link on Turf on September 30)
Preseason Clinic: TBC (December 2024)
Season Starts: Tuesday 1/14/2025
Season Ends: Saturday 3/15/2025

Boys & Girls Grades 4 – 8: Watertown Youth Basketball, an all-volunteer organization, offers in-house programs and more competitive travel programs for students in grades 4 -8. Registration is open for the travel leagues now. Click the link below. In-House League begins in October and runs through March. Register here:

In-House League for 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade  

Registration for Travel Leage is open now and will close on October 1. Tryouts will be held in early October. The season begins in October and ends in late March.

Boys & Girls Grades 6 – 8: Watertown Middle School offers a competitive school-based team. Tryouts are in the late fall with all middle school students eligible to participate. Turf will post a link to registration as soon as it becomes available. 

Boys & Girls Grades 9 – 12: Watertown High School offers competitive programs with an excellent coaching staff:
Steve Harrington, Head Boys Basketball Coach, Watertown High School
Coach Harrington has guided the Red Raiders to twenty-eight straight tournament appearances while compiling 451 wins. While at Watertown Coach Harrington has helped guide Watertown to 3 State Titles, 5 State Finals, 9 Final Fours, and 12 Elite Eights. Coach Harrington was recognized at the Boston Globe’s Division III Coach of the Year for 2002-2003, 2006-2007 and 2017-18.  

Mike Tempesta, Head Girls Basketball Coach, Watertown High School
Coach Tempesta is entering his 2nd season as Head Coach in Watertown.  Coach Tempesta helped guide his team to the State Tournament during his first campaign as head coach at Watertown.  Coach Tempesta has worked and spoken at numerous camps and clinics throughout New England.

Jeremy Kullman, Head Boys Basketball Coach, Watertown Middle School/Varsity Assistant Coach
Coach Kullman was a 3-year starter at Lunenburg as well as Captain to a 20-0 Hall of Fame Team. He has been involved in youth sports since moving to Watertown in 2006 and has been president of Watertown Youth Basketball since 2019 while coaching AAU.
 
 Coach Harrington also offers clinics and camps throughout the year to help students prepare for the season. His next 4-day clinic begins on October 10 and is offered to boys and girls in grades 2 through 9. Check out the details and register now to hold your kid's spot:
